Schedule an Elective Course
How to schedule an elective for your church
From choosing a course to graded student records — the 9-step host-church workflow.
Electives are scheduled on request — see the scheduled-classes calendar below for sessions already on the books, or email the elective department to start a new one.
- Choose the elective course your group wants to study from the catalog below.
- Pick your preferred start date and meeting schedule.
- Submit the Elective Request Form (lead times below).
- FBI sends a sample syllabus + recruitment materials so you can promote the class locally.
- Recruit your students (minimum 8 enrolled to proceed).
- Mail completed student applications and tuition payment back to FBI.
- FBI ships the full course package (videos, workbooks, tests) to your church.
- Run the class and complete all coursework by the agreed-upon deadline.
- FBI grades student work and updates each student's official academic record.

Elective Courses
Specialized courses taught by expert instructors, available to supplement the core curriculum. Each elective is self-contained and open to students at any semester level unless otherwise noted.
Electives are currently offered in English. Translations into additional languages are on the way as part of our ongoing global rollout.
Dr. John Yates

Founder and instructor of Faith Bible Institute since 1985, he has taught verse by verse through the entire Bible 13 times. Author of FBI's 14-volume commentary set on the Old and New Testaments and 4-volume Theology set, plus works on Bible Prophecy, Angels, Scientific & Biblical Creationism, Personal Evangelism, and Discipleship Evangelism. Holds a Doctorate in Religion from Faith International University, an MA in Religion & Counseling from Liberty University, and post-graduate studies in Israel. Elective FAQ
Can my church host an elective even if we aren't yet an FBI school?
Yes. Electives can be taken on their own or alongside the 3-year core program.
How soon can we schedule an elective?
U.S. schools need 8 weeks advance notice; international schools need 12 weeks before the desired start date.
How do we schedule an elective?
Submit the request form, pick a start date, recruit 8+ students, collect applications and payment, then mail them to FBI to process.
How much do the elective courses cost?
Pricing varies by course — roughly $40–$75 per student.
How long are the elective courses?
Courses run 6–20 classes, with individual sessions of about 36–60 minutes.
How many students do we need?
A minimum of 8 students per elective.
Do participants have to be current FBI students?
No — electives are open to new, current, and former students.
Do I receive a diploma or certificate for each elective?
Elective courses on their own do not currently earn a diploma or certificate. Electives count toward the Advanced Diploma in Biblical Studies: students who complete the full 36-credit-hour core curriculum earn the Advanced Diploma by adding 6 credit hours of electives. The Bible College Diploma can be earned first, with electives completed later.
How many credit hours is each elective?
Between 1 and 2 credit hours, depending on the course.

How many electives earn the Advanced Diploma in Biblical Studies?
Six elective credit hours, in addition to the 3-year core curriculum.
Can individuals take an elective course?
Not currently — electives require a group of 8+ using DVDs and printed materials.
